about

It’s special to sit down and sing with old friends! Bearing melodies and harmonies, folks travelled from as far as New Orleans and Philadelphia to make this music together. On one night, a 25-person spontaneous Jewish choir joined us and we were able to capture some of the amazing and unscripted sounds of everyday people singing together. Thanks to all who made this music!

We recorded this album at the Kane Street synagogue in January in the bitter cold with a broken heating system. Our percussionist, who doubles as a boiler specialist, spent several hours fixing the boiler system, until he stopped so that he could make an appearance on this record. It was darn cold, but we warmed up when we played.

All of these tracks were recorded live, with few rehearsals and no overdubs or autotune, and they capture some miraculous moments of sweet harmony, as well as some glaring “dissonances” - all of which at very least makes this music feel deliciously real. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing it!
