about

The texts and singing on this album explore the full emotional range of human experience as we attempt to climb from the pits of despair and tears and to ascend the dream musical ladder that connects Earth to Heaven. As such, the music is at times rapturous and ecstatic, and at other times deeply sad.

Thanks to all who performed and produced this music! It’s a privilege to have made this seventh album with the Hadar Ensemble—long time friends and great musicians. Thank you to the Germantown Jewish Centre for hosting the recording sessions. Huge thanks to Don Godwin for his masterful engineering and mastering work, to Ilusha Tsinadze and Andrew Benincasa for the design and layout of this CD, and to Shmulie Lowenstein for filming the live sessions. Thank you to all of our teachers, friends, supporters and students who have made this work possible, to Katharine Baker and Hadar’s Rising Song Institute in Philadelphia, and to the great singers and musicians who have inspired this music. Thank you especially to Molly Weingrod and to Lev, Mozi, Bina and Emanuel (Manu) Weisenberg for their support and enthusiasm.

Finally, thank you for listening! We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing it! - JW 2019
